About Brad W. Smith, Director of Photography
In a recent interview about his style, Brad comments, “I have been described as a generalist with a passion and I think it fits. I take on just about anything. I am not so specialized that I can’t shift gears into something that makes me reach. Most of what I do is a mix…a mix of styles, technique, equipment and what I do best is find the root of what needs to happen and then build on it. That is where the director in me comes out to play.”
“My latest art photography series, Images of Maine was a labor of love, as sailing is one of my favorite pastimes and Maine is so rich with a large schooner community. For a week last summer the aboard The Victory Chimes, America’s largest remaining tri-mast schooner built in 1900, I tried to mix art photography, photojournalism, and for still life images, a new technique of multiple image layering to achieve amazing color range and to bring out normally hidden details. The result is the Images of Maine Series.”
“You name it, I go for it. I do love a challenge. From what may seem a clean and simple set-up to the most complex and challenging, I am best when something gets me going, something really cool or really challenging. I look for what brings out the best in me as a photographer. Honestly, I am all about that illusive image that speaks a thousand words…getting the camera into that place that has not been looked from before and seeing it from my mind’s eye, which IS what my photography is all about.”
